Beyond the Bedroom

Intimate apparel does not have to be confined within the walls of your bedroom. Sure, the fabric may be sheer and the cut may sometimes be sexy; but there is a way to create outfits out of these lounge pieces. Check out how I wear some of my intimate pieces out on the street instead of just before I hit the sheets…

  1. Urban Outfitters light blue silk with lace inset slip

The slip simply worn as a dress layered over another ivory slip is short and sexy.

The slip worn under a lightweight tan cardigan tucked into ivory high-wasted shorts is great for a casual day out-and-about in the city.

The slip layered under a lightweight tan cardigan accessorized with a light pink leather belt over suede pants creates a unique mix of textures.

 2. Urban Outfitters floral print silk robe

The menswear-inspired pinstripe shorts balances out the feminine floral robe. The ivory cotton top and wooden sandals keep the look casual.

The sheer floral print silk robe acts as a topper belted over the long sleeve olive maxi dress. A coral stone necklace pulls the color from within the print.

 3. Free People floral print sheer silk slip

Mixing patterns works in this instance because both prints are within the same color concept. The multi-color strip silk scarf accentuates the corresponding colors within the floral slip.

The brown leather moto jacket adds a tough finishing touch to the silk maxi and single strand of knotted pearls.

Carry the sleeveless slip into the next season by layering something on top of it. The terracotta orange crochet sweater belted over the maxi extends the wear of it and gives it the appearance of a skirt.

Whether it’s a bustier subtly peeking out from under a blazer or a lace cami layered under a cardigan, think about how you can wear your intimates other than in the obvious ways…just remember – always keep it tasteful.
